no the dust sheild needs to stay there hench its name, its there to serve its purpose. More than likely you didnt get a good proper seal or got another tear. Actually the first time I did mine it leaked about a week later. Good tip is to put vasoline on the inside lip so it doesnt rub n tear, and some rtv on the outside lip for extra sealing. Again your prolly just going to have to redo it, but then you get into the huge issue of whether to change your crush sleeve, especially beens its already beens done once etc, etc. may the rants begin lol.
