Default When to re gear?

Im new to the whole re gearing scene here and ive looked but couldnt find when should you re gear? I just checked my truck out and i have 3.73 gear ratio now stock. I bout a 3'' BL and installing it this wensday with a friend and getting 32s after christmas when i get some canadian tire gift cards haha. Im thinking i should be fine with the gears i have no but was wondering at what point should someone re gear? Will i loose much power and fuel milage with this new setup? can you re gear for better fuel milage also?
Thanks

Hi all, new to the site also
What I have to add fits this thread...
my truck has 3.0 came fact w 3.73 and 15 in tires. The guy I got it from added bl and axle lift, 4.56 gears.
I changed to 245/70-16 tires/alum wheels and had approx 21 mpg. Then swapped back to 3.73 and mileage is 17. It doesnt make sense to me.

This might help.

redvoyager, it doesn't matter what size rims you have but what size tires you have. If you have a larger diameter tires you will will the bigger gears.

Thanks for the reply...What is confusing is that I got better mileage with the 4.56 but the charts show I would do better with a 3.55. I am doubly basing my mileage on fill ups and gps not speedo which is inaccurate. With the new tires and 4.56 I got 300 miles on a tank and with the 3.73 only 200

----------

Oh, and by the way I am needing to make a decision soon about what to be the gearing since I have a guy wanting the 4.56
