Default Question about lockers and LS

i have an 8.8 open differential. I want something that will give me more traction in snow, mud, etc. and also be practical for everyday driving. I dont want to spend a fortune on this. What would you all recommend? is there anything that is "easy" to install? I thought about a locker but i don think that would be practical for every day driving.

Any suggestions or opinions would be great

read this, it will tell you a lot about it, the biggest factors in selecting a traction device are budget and planned usage... if you just drive in the snow occasionally then get a limited slip, if you are gonna be taking it into the hills a lot, look into a more secure locking device that will better power the wheels, if you have the funds, go with a selectable locker and get the best of both worlds!

i was doing a little research and they can go anywhere from $100 to $900. Has anyone had this done at a shop? how much did it cost to have someone put it in?

yeah mazdab2300 it depends on what you want, if you want a posi (limited slip) you can get one for a few hundo, if you want an arb selectable locker you are gonna be paying 750-800 plus you will have to plumb in air lines, and a compressor which will be another few hundo minimum, pluuuuus more if you want an air tank... it all depends.

Limited slip works fine for me with some weight in the bed and a set of snow tires driving on the plowed or treated roads here in western PA. Nowhere as good as the 4x4 dually I drive all day at work in all weather and terrain. Limited slip can get a bit squirrely but an open dif you ain't even movin.
