Default problems shifting into 1st and reverse

94 ranger with the 3,0 5 speed. when trying to shift into reverse, with the clutch pressed in completely, it would grind a little... and it gives me problems getting into first gear as well... also on a similar question, when sitting at stop lights, should i be holding in the clutch and stay in gear, or pop it into neutral?

i think the problem is that your clutch is not adjusted right and is not disengaging all the way.

as for sitting at a stop light, its kinda your preference. i pop mine in neutral and keep the pedal down unless im at a long light then ill let the pedal up to relax my leg. my theory is that if you let the pedal up then press it down in a couple seconds at every light then the clutch will wear out faster. but thats just in my mind.

have your clutch adjusted and you should be ok. if not then its probably a problem with the clutch master cylinder or possibly a bad throw out bearing

had a bad hydraulic cylinder, got it fixed. good news: the guy that had it before me replaced the slave and a couple other things, so those parts will probably outlast the truck if i continue to go easy on the truck.
