Default clutch pedal push rod spring

So I need to get the whole master cylinder and hydraulic line to bench bleed it (as I am going to be putting on a new slave and i am like pretty dry out of fluid as it all leaked out on the road)

the haynes manual says to remove clip or spring from push rod located on top of the clutch pedal.

truck is an 03 ford ranger

There is a black looking clip thing connected on top of the pushrod to the pedal, is that it? and how do i take it off, tried using screwdriver and needle nose pliers with no go
