2001 XLT 3.0 4x4 O/D Issue
Hello all, this is my first time posting on this forum which I found while trying to figure out what the deal is with my tranny through a google search, figured I would just join and ask since I didn't find a def. answer.
Anyways, I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT Off-Road 4x4 3.0 Automatic. Recently the transmission is shifting at weird RPM's, and every once in a while my O/D light will start blinking. If I drive with the O/D off the transmission functions fine.
I got it scanned and the guy told me it was a Solenoid issue, he said it was the "3rd"? I beleive? I may be wrong about the number.
Anyways, has anyone else had this problem? When I take off it goes fine, but it seems like when it tries to shift it goes to high RPM's and then (once it finally finds the gear, sometimes after I let off the gas and let the RPM come down) it slams/jerks into the gear. I have to let of the gas to get it to shift at all without basically redlining while going up a hill, and passing... yeah thats a big no no as you never keep the speed you were at when you punch the throttle. Getting on the freeway/interstate is a nightmare having to basically "feather" the throttle to get your RPMs just right so it will shift.
Heres the weird part... it works fine when the O/D is off... WTF???
I am lost as to transmissions and can do simple stuff, however paying for a new tranny or a big repair is way out of my budget.
Is there any additives I can add to the tranny fluid, maybe the soleniod is sticking due to dirt?
I just changed the tranny fluid, no shavings, no burnt smell, no / barely any discoloration. Still acting up after the change.
So now what???
Thanks in advance for your help... I know its driving me crazy!!
