You need special tools and calibration equipment as well as a plethora of knowledge about how gearing works....If you really WANTED to try this on your own go here:

good info on here on how much tedious and time consuming work there is in a gear job fora 1st time DIYer. If it were up to me, I'd let a pro do it, just my opinion though

no, its not really. it requires some specials tools and knowledge of how to set gears. it cost me $500 for the front and rear gear sets with master rebuild kits and had i payed someone to install them i would have payed probably about $200-$300 per axle so about $1100- $1200 total.

X2 its def not a matter of just throwing new gears in.

I did answer your question in another thread about how much it will cost, but.... approx. $1200 with yukon gears, master overhaul kits with timken bearings, and installation, NOT including traction devices (i.e.- lockers,ls,posi's). Its not cheap, but it pays off in the long run.
