help with arb air locker

i acquired an arb airlocker and the guy told me it would work in my truck. the truck has an axle code of 86. which i know is the 7.5" 2750 class with 3.73 gears.
but i have no instructions for the install and have no idea were to start?

can some one give me a clue or a link so i could read up on this. my plan was to use the locker this winter if i needed that extra little nudge since this is an open rearend. if someone has another idea i'd be interested in hearing some ideas. i wish i could afford a 4x4 truck but since i can't i have to try and do the best i can.

i understand the whole idea of weight in the bed/snow tires but i'm looking for that extra edge.

First off don't you need onboard air to use that???

Second, I would highly recommend getting that installed at a shop...PITA to work in the diff.

well if you got the whole system then it would come with a compressor to actuate the diff. and the switches and stuff, if all you have is the locker itself..maybe you should just sell it. itll cost a fortune to get the whole thing and install it
heres the install on a jeep wrangler, should be similar in concept

Do you know if the locker is made for the 7.5 axle? I took a peak on ARBs website, and it appears they don't make air lockers for 7.5 axled rangers according to:

You may need to swap in an 8.8 axle, which I would recommend if you are going to install a locker anyways. I mean I'm no axle expert, but I do know that the locker will put more stress on the axle components and the 7.5 is the weaker axle for the Rangers.

glad to find this out before i took the thing apart. what would i be looking in $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to do the swap and would i benifit from doing it or is there some easyer thing i could do? all i really want is to get around a little better if the roads turn crappy.

you would definatley benefit in time and money. heres a site that finds anything you need near you.
youll benefit if you choose an 8.8 with a 4.10 in it already, then you just put your arb locker in while the axle is still out, then when its all bolted up ready to go, disconnect your axle that you have now, swap the both axles and your set.

Depends on how mechanically inclined you are, how much are you looking to spend, and what all you want out of it.

What do you think about limited slip differentials? It shouldn't be THAT hard to find an 8.8 Ranger axle with a limited slip already installed in it, and that would be a straight up bolt-for-bolt swap with what you have now.

If you want to get more mechanical, I would try to find an explorer 8.8 axle. Not only do they all have 31 splines (most ranger axles are 28 spline... slightly weaker) but more importantly, they all have disc brakes. So you get a stronger axle, and better braking capabilities. Requires some extra work, and probably some extra money too.

Or if you have a limited budget, just get something for the 7.5 axle you have now and don't beat on it.

yep, it's in a box ontop of the beer fridge.lol just wondered what i needed to do to use it and if it was worth it? may look into the explorer axle and try one with a limited slip to start with and go from there.
