Default Weird brake problem.

did brakes about 2 months ago, been driving around always heard a clunking noise thought it was the struts so i changed them. But still heard the clunking noise when i was driving.

* Last night while coming up the highway, i tap the brake and the brakes lockup in the front. My friend said check if its the tranny put it in neutral and see if it rolls back, IT DID, i put it in drive and it went but as soon as i tap the brake it would lock up.

* I took the wheel off to inspect it, caliper bolt on bottom missing. I always double check when i assemble it was gone thinking vibration or it snapped.

* I then look at the rotor it was tight for some reason now very loose and alot of play, i had to tow it home.

ANY IDEAS ON WHAT IT COULD BE ?

Torque to spec. And use thread lock. 85 ft pounds for the mounting bracket to spindle bolts.
All I can say. If it backed out because it was lose, it would clatter for a long time even before it dropped.

as i inspected it, the key way is still in there, Thank god. But Apparently the washer behind the shims for the axle, the actual washer broke causing the rotor to have play.

My theory is someone told me when i did my brakes the axle nut should only be hand tightened.

My theory:

is it was loose, got some play, washer snapped. Rotor starting hitting caliper causing it to vibrate, caliper bracket bolt comes loose, top bolt still in place, but flying around causing clunking noise. and i guess filings from the bracket bouncing around or peices from the broken washer stuck in the peice that engages 4x4 caused brakes to lock up.

WHAT U GUYS THINK?

If a washer broke behind the axle nut, im assuming you mean in the hub...time to check your wheel bearings or you might be getting towed home again soon.

No seriously just use blue threadlock and torque it to spec. Too tight can lead to failure and too loose with no threadlock can cause things to back out. There are also bolts right next to the ones that hold your caliper bracket on that are the same socket size. So maybe you could have put your ratchet on one of those and thought you were checking your caliper bolt instead.
I wasn't calling you names. Josh needs to speak for himself. I simply thought you were pretending not to understand something to get a commotion going.
But if I didn't have anything helpful to say, I should have said nothing. So I apologize.
