Default For those of you having to replace Rear Pinion Seal

I am going to try and tackle my rearend seal this weekend if possible. I have done some stuying on it and asking around, and have come to the conclusion that I can do this. I will try and make a writeup with pictures and all as well for the site.

I also ran across this video which is extremely helpful! Its a mechanic showing a video on how to replace the pinion seal. Now granted its on a Ford Crown Vic, but the process is still the same (i dont know what rearend the crown vic has).

My pinion seal isn't even leaking but I kinda want to replace it now just because I watched that video.

I just learned about two very valuable things.
Dealing with preload, and that blocked venting on a sealed system can cause mystery leaks/premature seal wear.
Yes that video rocked and thank you for posting it.

Also here is the Ford Workshop manual for the flange. The seal is the easy thing to replace and reinstall. Its the flange and nut you gotta worry about. The Ford Work Manual is a little different that the video, but I'm just putting all the info I have out there for it. I will be making a how-to when I do mine for FRF

you got that shit right! i have read that the crush sleeve (wth that is) is what sets the preload, then i have read that the nut does, so i dk. I think its the sleeve that does the preload, the nut just holds it in place
