Default Ford M5OD-R1 Rebuild

New to forum and wanted to share a project I finished up a little while ago. On a trip my transmission made a loud bang and I coasted to a stop. I drive my ranger pretty hard so with 125,000 miles I am not surprised. I posted pictures of some of the major points. I have lots more. Just takes a long time to post.
I removed the transmission my input shaft is just hanging there. Picture is old vs new.

Not hard to rebuild this transmission. Remove from vehicle. Hardest part is getting all of the transmission bolts and removing the exhaust. I had to cut three of the four to the exhaust manifolds because they were so rusted.
I jacked the ranger up and removed the starter, removed the driveshaft, removed the transmission cross member and supported the transmission with a jack stand. disconnected the wiring to the transmission, disconnected the hydraulic line, disconnected the exhaust sensor wires, unbolted rear exhaust to cat, and unbolt/cut exhaust from manifolds.

I lowered the transmission a little so I could gain access to all of the bolts. They should all be 13mm. Remove and remember order. I used a pry bar in two locations to disconnect the transmission dowel pins from engine. Make sure you are supporting the transmission with a transmission jack. Then lower and remove from ranger.

Next post will be rebuilding transmission.

With the transmission out of the ranger. I removed the slave cylinder and discarded. I figured I would replace it, clutch, and flywheel because I had it apart and age. These were all original. I removed the shifter assembly cover and tailshaft housing. Make sure its in neutral before tearing into.

The transmission looked pretty overall however, I purchased a full rebuild kit and tried to replace as much of the components as I could.
Remove the top most piece on the output shaft - black plastic bushing, then remove the snap ring to get the speedometer drive gear, there's a small steel ball that under the speedo drive gear watch for it.

Then you need to lock the transmission in first and third gear, push the bottom ring down and push the tip ring up. The main and countershafts will not turn. Next you need to remove the locknuts from each shaft. You need to pry the staked area away from the shafts. I used a cutoff wheel to take material away then a awl and screw driver.

then remove the nuts on the countershaft (32mm) and output shaft (55mm) I had a 55mm wrench, I work in the wind industry.

Then remove the reverse idler shaft. Remove 14mm bolt on outside of case.

Then use a bearing puller to remove the output shaft main bearing.

Then remove from the output shaft the reverse gear, sleeve counter reverse gear, two needle bearings, reverse synchronizer ring. From the counter shaft remove the thrust washer and split washer.
Remove the fifth /reverse shift rod holding bolt - 12mm.

I will post again with more info.

If you have not already put the trans in I would recommend putting in Syncromesh or synthetic gear oil.

Ford says to put in ATF, thats why these trannys fail, ATF is hydrolic fluid, not gear fluid.

Just a thought

How do you remove the hydrolic line? I can't seem to get mine off, I feel like I'm goingto break it.

I am currently replacing several damages bearings on my transmission(same as tnadanzig). How do I go about removing the bearing on the input shaft (shown in tnadanzig's first photo showing that it had separated)? I have tried using the puller and simply snapped the outer casing for the bearings. This caused the bearings to spill out and the casing to fall off. I still need to remove the core.

Any and all input i appreciated.

Thanks
