Get a complete axle from a junk yard in the gear ratio you want.

Depends on what you are using the truck for and if you have 4X4 or 4X2. If 4X4, you have to match the gear ratio with what is up front or swap both to what gear ratio you desire.

Your transmission will make a difference too. Gear ratio options are wider with an automatic than with a manual.

If you want disc brakes, get an axle from a '96 +....comes with posi, 4.10 gears, disc brakes....you will need to adapt your ebake cables to it...simple enough...but, you need to reweld the spring perches on top of the axle and reposition the shock mounts.

If you dont need disc brakes get an axle from (dont quote me) an '01 + Ranger. No other modifications necessary

It depends on what year ranger you have...but you might have the smaller axle in there now, a 7.5 or something...The axles I suggested are ford 8.8s...you will probably gain about 3/4-1" of lift if you do use one of those axles...

You can do a 4.10:1 with a manual but from the factory, the lowest you could get (at least in my manual) was a 3.73:1. If you have a four cylinder, you might appreciate the additional grunt a 4.10 will give you.

You can get either gearing in a 7.5" or 8.8" rear end but the 8.8" is a more robust axle. You will be shifting really quick out of first with a 4.10 or skipping first gear all together most times if you get one though and you might see a hit on your fuel mileage as well.

There are arguments on both sides of the fence concerning fuel mileage and the axle ratios, so that's something to think about.
