Default electric t-case

My 04 ranger has a electric motor to switch the t-case. i am not to fond of it. I am going to be plowing snow with it and i dont want to have to wait and rock the truck back and forth to get it in and out of 4wd LOW. Is there some trick to getting it to shift smoothly and quickly? Or is it just because it is electric?

Can i switch it over to a manual lever or do i have to swap out t-cases?

Not sure about Ford but there was a mod for the Chevies that changed it to a manual shift, but I would be worried about snow I have had my trucks buried in mud water hell I even submerged my old S10 in a river up to the windows(wasnt nice on the int). I pulled it out drained it and no problems with it. O just got to thinking its not a motor in your tcase that does it there is a signal that goes to your front diff that tells it to lock.
Edit- that is if Ford is doing the same thing as Chevy did Im sure someone will have more info on it.

hmm you really shouldnt have to wait long. Your hubs are already engadged at all times, just the transfer case has to speed up and align to turn your front diff. The only reason your 4x4 wont engage is if your hub assemblies are messed up, or some electrical problem with the switch. For the most part the change to the hubs being always engadged have been a good strong setup, just sucks having to replace the whole hub assemblies when they go out. But still you shouldnt have to rock your truck back and forth alot, I go back just alil bit to make 100 percent sure before I turn the truck off but I have never had any problems with my 06 connecting fast. I just put the truck in neutral (manual shifter), the press the brake all the way in for low to connect in, turn the knob to 4x4 hi and boom it clicks over and lights on the dash, then I switch over to low, and bam it goes into low and lights up. Literally never more than a sec or 2, but if the brake isn't pressed all the way in, it wont want to go in perfect and fast (I know I have made this mistake before and couldnt figure out why it wouldnt go into low.) So with your set up you should be totally fine.

There really isn't much you can do for your set up, besides new differential, or manual t case but in my opinion that wouldnt be worth all the trouble unless you just REALLY wanted it. The setup you have is a good one, you should be fine.

i agree x2 with this guy pressing the brake should be best thing n not gettin in to much of a hurry even tho plowin snow can get ya workin n goin at it.man you could swap to an older t-case like what i have or a newer one,but all the modding you would have to do would cost a little ,and be cutting into cab floor to get clearance, plus changeing your crossmember. So keeping that in mind like he said unless you just want to change it,what ya got's is da best.

So a manual t-case was not an option in my truck?

I wonder if my electric motor is weak and that is why it does not engage right away

Can you not reverse in 4L? That seems like an odd restriction.
According to my user manual, shifting in and out of 4L on an auto requires the truck to be stopped and the transmission in Neutral.
