Default locker?

i am thinking of installing a locker to give me better traction this winter (and during the occasional offroad adventure) i have a 2000 2.3 2wd, any thoughts? i am looking at the system from lock-right, but any opinions or suggestions are welcome. is there a better/cheaper way to get traction in snow and mud?
thanks guys

It's called selling it and buying a 4wd. Locking a stock 2wd is like... Wiping before you sh!t... It doesn't make any sense.

If you are just looking for a little bit of traction for slip and slid crap and not into hardcore off road just go with a L/S.

i read that limited slip does not really help. i found a locker online that said it would fit and it costs about $350. i watched a video with someome installing it and it looked very manageable.

Your link isnt working, but Ive run L/S in some trucks never had a problem with them. The thing with a locker is unless you get one that you can unlock your going to be tearing up your tires driving it on the road.

I had a friend that drove a cherokee with a locker on the rear and drove up a mountain pass for work. He said the locker caused more problems then it helped. Going up a hill, the locker would spin him in a circle with just the slightest blip of throttle. He sold that truck pretty quick. I have a 2wd out here in Colorado where chains are legal and I just have face the fact that I need to chain up frequently.

no no no no no it will not help it will make it worse. and a l/s works just fine in the snow i almost never have to use 4wd in snow and i live in michigan where snow is deep. u need to put snow tires on ur truck and u need sand bags in the back of the bed this will help u out alot. wide tires are worse in snow than skiny tires keep that in mind. never smash the gas lol if u start slipping let off never try to correct it.

yeah, thanks for the advise!
if you google "powertrax lock-right" ypu can see what i'm talking about.
i'm definitely in for snow tires this winter, (where can i get some cheap steel rims?)
and the bed will be weighted too, that should help a lot. i'd like to get chains, but i'm pretty sure there illegal in MA.
but none of that changes the fact that if one of my drive tires is on a slick patch of ice, i'm not going anywhere.
i understand that 99.9% of the time the open differential is fine, i just think it would be nice to have the locker when i need it. i'd always rather have something and not need it.
