Default oil change

My 99 ranger with 4.0 auto 4x4 is due for oil change, filter also, I like to do royal purple MAX ATF. the manual says 10.8 qts.?? is that draining all the fluid out of the tranny and refilling it ?what about changing the filter? is that easy to do ?and also about refilling the tranny, I haven't done it, so I don't want to screw it up.I'm hope this RP MAX ATF helps my tranny out ,lots miles (174,000)

Royal Purple is the shit! You won't go wrong there, i don't know what you need for capacity, I do know that any parts store can get you the filter you need, you drop the tranny pan and it should be right there.

I think it is no different than motor oil. Expensive and fancy brands do the same thing as the generic and non-fancy brands.

There are differences in the fancy brands to the non-fancy, most of it has to do with additives. As well as synthetic vs non synthetic. You can run any of em with pretty good success. As for an ATF fluid, I'd stick with a name brand, but you aren't going to get a lot of difference among them, Royal Purple, AMS, and Lucas will give you lots of extras that something like Oreilly Brand won't give you as far as additives.
