Default Where do you check the transmission oil in a 5 speed manual?

Is it really the same oil as the engine? Because the drain plug is way back under the transmission basically. The whining sound and burning smell that happens in all gears except fourth for me started RIGHT after I changed my oil.

I think it may have to do with the synchronizers/dog collar because if you try to put it in gear lightly without the clutch you can hear a louder noise than it used to be, and it's more grindy.

Is it bad to use a synchronous transmission like a non synchronous crash box transmission?

there are 2 bolts on the side of the trans, unscrew the top bolt, and stick your finger to check level

Nope, they are different. If you have an owner's manual, check the fluid specification. Some older Rangers use gear oil, mine uses Mercon (ATF).

"Speed shifting" generally is not the best way to shift gears either. That's what the clutch is there for. If done wrong over a long period of time, I suppose you could damage your syncronizers. Grinding gears due to mistiming is certainly not good in any case.
