Default Won't go into first gear *sometimes*

Just like the title reads, at seemingly random times my truck won't go into first gear unless you drop it to second then back to first. No other gears seem to be effected. 94 2.3L 2WD

Check the clutch. Any leakage form the master or slave? fluid level OK. Possible air in the line.

mine does it too. always has. it seems like to me that when its sitting there clutch in and nothing moving, the gears for first wont lign up but by putting it in secong then first it ligns up the gears to slide in. i have noticed that if im on a slight hill and i let off the brakes it will go into first easy because the tranny is moving slightly as the truck moves.

i dont think that this is a problem as i dont think that it is the clutch (at least mine isnt) because it never grinds it just plain wont go in gear

i had a 95 escort 5 spd that was the exact same way (had to put it into second then first). and that car had a transaxle....
