Default Drive Shaft Balancer keeps fallen off!

I have a 1997 ford ranger XLT with about 114,000 miles on it. The problem I am having is about four months ago the balancer fell off of the drive shaft. It just slides up aganset the trany and then back to the u-joint. I have been jerry ridging it with zip ties to keep it in the aproxement proper spot, and it last for awhile untill the zip ties brake. I have a coworker with a 03 ranger xlt who has the same problem, so my question is... is it safe to just remove it and run with out it.

Wtf are you talking about. Pics would help. The only balancer I've ever seen on a drive shaft were small weights welded to the shaft. Oh wait I did see some sort of fluid type balancer on work over rig once. They said it was custom made so that the drive line did not have to be phased properly. It didn't work to good, because I was replacing the tranny due to the dive shaft breaking and cracking the case. lol. Post up some pics please and I'll try to help.

he is talking about a dampener i think, it is a rubber mounted colar around the front of the drive shaft, it cuts down on harmonic vibrations, mine came loose about 3 years ago, i took it off, and my tail shaft seal just stated to leak this month, i think the bearing in the tail is loose

Hey all. my truck's dampener just came loose recently and I didn't know why it did. Is it expensive to fix or alright to remove? My truck has 198,000 or so miles on the odometer. YEAH!

my year ranger ('96) has a steel drive shaft, the harmonic damper/ balancer feel off because the rubber that mounts it to the shaft dry rotted, it fell off when the truck had about 55,000 miles, it now has 89,000, and every thing seems fine, the tail shaft seal doesn't leak, and the bushing in the tail shaft is still tight,
