Default 97 Ranger Automatic trans linkage...

is very loose. Won't shift into park. I must start it in nuetral. Two wheel drive. Is there an adjustment or part replacement or what?

I greatly appreciate any help!

Mine is 97 too, when happens the same, I thighten (I wrote right? refer the opposite to loose it) some "allen type screws" in the bottom of the steering wheel column, upper of the brake pedal. If you follow the movement of the ("palanca de cambios" in the steering wheel, please help to write correctly), you will find some allen screws. It's common to find them loosen, and I thight them and problem solved.

Can't find the way that allen screws never loose again, but I know how to fix the problem each time happens. My main problem when it happens, is that I can't park my truck safely, I must to move again and again the "palanca de cambios" until park safely, or the other way my truck no park safely and moves like it was in neutral mode, and can't start until I move it to a park position in the park-neutral start tranny switch.

Hope this help you.

Greetings

Román

yes there should be an adjustment in the cable, or you can replace the cable but you then would have to adjust the new cable so it works right

Nope then you would not be able to start the truck in park or nuetral

there is also two screws on the column where the cable hooks too that back off quit often. you might check them as well.
