Ceramic brake pads - chattering!
New dude here...
I have a 2002 Ranger Ext. Cab XLT, 2 wheel drive, Auto Transmission, 4.0L.
I have just had an experience with ceramic brake pads that was kind of weird, I think.
My truck needed new front brakes so I bought new rotors, bearings, seals and my first ever set of ceramic Wagner pads. From all I have read, I expected everything to be great! When installing the new rotors and pads, I scuffed them slightly with sandpaper and the wiped them down real good with brake cleaner. When on the test drive, I noticed a noise when applying the brakes. It was almost like the brakes were grinding but different. The noise just got steadily worse. The parts store told me the pads just needed to seat and all would be good after a few days. Well, it just got worse-the chatter turned into vibrations. I then pulled everything off, sanded down the pads and rotors to scuff them up good (like I was told to do by the parts dudes), reinstall and retest. Same results. Finally, I thought @#*& it and bought semi metallic Wagner Pads. Installed those puppies and all is well! Has anyone else had similar problems with ceramics?
