not sure where to post this and not sure how to ask but here goes.. I have no owners manual.
my newly to me 01 4x4 ranger edge has th 4x4 switch on the dash you turn it to 2h 4h or 4lo question is is there a certain way in order to go to 4x4 mode meaning can I be driving in 2h and turn switch to 4H or 4 LO or do I have to come to a stop before changing into 4x4 mode on either 4h or lo
and then back to 2h

Its always better if you stop put the truck in neutral and then select 4x4. Not necessary for 4-Hi, but it will grind if you put it in 4-Low without being in neutral. I know the Older rangers with Push-Button 4x4, you need to put it in 4-High before selecting 4-Low.

Also, use neutral when taking the truck out of 4x4, once its out , put the truck in reverse and back up maybe 10' if possible, to make sure the hubs are out. Once again, not necessary but its a good practice to get into.

He is right, I have to throw mine in reverse to disengage the 4wd
