Default Rear Axle Seal Leak? Need Help

So I went to have my brakes checked today and they said that my left rear axle seal was slightly leaking and needed to be replaced. They were going to charge $140 and I would've done it right there and then but they said it would take them 5 hours and I didn't have a ride home. Is this something I should be worried about or is it ok to let it be for a little while? I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but have never dealt with tires/brakes/axles before, is it an easy job to do myself? By the way, my truck has 60k miles on it, should it be leaking already?
