Default transfer case interchangeability

i did a quick search but couldnt really find what i was looking for so im sorry if this has been asked before like a million times.

so i have a 2004 Ranger with a 3.0L and more importantly a 5 speed manual transmission.

it has that automatic transfer case and i dont like it. it gets fubar'd too easily and i keep having to constantly fiddle with it. i got it to drop in and out of 4HI real good but 4LO is a constant battle. i loved the manualy t-case in my 95 and was wondering if anyone knows the interchangeability of these? i realize i will have to cut a hole in the floor and some other mods which i am fine with i just want to know if anybody has done this or has some good insight on the subject. i would assume i need a good t-case and probably the front drive shaft ???

Talking Re: transfer case interchangeability

im not for shure but what about the transfer case from an older ranger like mine man i have heard of useing diffrent t-case but can't remember what it was all about anymore but mine is an older manual turbo t-case 4h and 4low and 2wheel high and is borg-wener and relatively small for fitting ranger size.

Dual transfer cases, now thats the shit! Check the threads on TRS, they got a pretty extensive transfer case section. That where I saw the stuff on dual T-cases, turns your truck into a tractor!

I believe what you want is a Borg warner 1454 t-case. The only diff. is the shifter. If I remember correctly the stock one is a 1454-E, which means it's electric. Hope this helps.
