Default 2010 Disc Brakes on Older Ranger?

Anyone have any information as to whether the 2010 Ranger rear disk brakes will work on a 2005 model? if so how much of the system needs to be changed aside from the obvious, calipers, rotors, backing plates ect. Does the master cylinder, proportioning valve, parking brake cables ect need top change as well.

I have wanted rear disk brakes on my truck since I bought it, Im sure someone has wrecked a 2010 somewhere, just wanted to know how much to get from the donor truck

It would be easier to do a mustang rear brake conversion. Parts are more than abundant and probably cheaper.

Have a looksee

No one has done a 2010 ranger axle swap yet.

Some said it would be hard with the traction control stuff that it has now.

is there any reason not to just use the 2010 brake parts on the 2005 swap? as for the mustang conversion, I have not yet seen a thread for this, anyone have links?

I dunno what size the 2010 axle is 7.5 or 8.8 so if it is 8.8 and yours is 7.5 it wouldn't swap

I heard every ranger in 2010 is a 31 spline axle

Mustang swap --> http://www.fordrangerforum.com/engin...-rear-end.html

Why would that make it harder? It is essentially the same axle to my understanding, but it has electronic crap on it to monitor wheel slip and tire pressure. Leave it unplugged, your brakes still operate by hydraullic pressure when you push the pedal. But I'd say good luck finding that axle.

I would just like to know if the brake parts will fit my axle and if they do then its a straight up factory bolt on. There in lies the question !

You probably have a 7.5 axle with 28 spline so no it wont.

Newer axles are 8.8 31 spline which are larger diameter.

You will need the other components as well. Which those other components fit over the axle just like with the mustang disc conversion

Talking Re: 2010 Disc Brakes on Older Ranger?

man ive heard the advantages and disadvantages on brake swaps for older rangers and the disadvantage is you loose the ability to coast and it slowly ruins your axle and wheel seals personally i wouldn't do this because a heavier truck like my 4x4 would bust seals and strain front end plus the coasting is what saves power and gas and helps in 4x4 for gear work and wear the mustang swap is for idiot gearheads that like to breakstuff lol.

^^^^ WTF.... nothing in your post just made sense at all. I have driven rangers with rear disks they act just the same as drums no coasting problems also there is no way a braking system is gonna destroy the axle seal. and having rear disks is gonna stain the front end. dear god... just wtf

On par with pretty much anything else he says. This is coming from the person who claims he has a tandem rear end.
