94 ranger clutch or tran prob?
my once great truck has its first great prob.
5 speed manual, was diving up to stop sign when truck stopped suddenly moving while i was down shifting and cut off. i push in clutch and truck started up, but wouldnt go! was able to put it into 1st, but it wouldnt budge when i let our clutch. no reverse, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th either. when i had a friend tow me home i had to keep the clutch pressed down and in neutral or it would conk out like in a bad shift.
tranny?? thats my guess or clutch?
*** just checked trans fluid, instead of 5.6 pints I found 12 oz of black liquid and the drain plug was covered in a sludge. i'm betting trans burned up. filled up with ATF and it didnt make a difference, still no go.
*****pulled the transmission and clutch components off with help from dad. clutch looked ok as far as comparisons to pics of natural wear i saw online. so i got curious and just took top off my M5R1 trans and wow that is cool. i had not been able to turn the shaft so i was looking for anything, everything looks ok, not burned up, just stuck. ended up just sliding the back Slider? over so it was between two brass spacers and now the shaft spins freely. I drops trans when it was in neautral, could this have been the problem, could the slider have moved and locked up trans. my head hurts. oh well, prob going to put a new clutch and slave on and put the old trans on and see if it runs.
