Default 4 wheel to 2 wheel

So, I have a question that is going to cause a lot of head scratching. If I wanted to convert my 4x4 to a 4x2, would I need to remove the front axles, front driveshaft, front diff, xfer case, add a tailshaft to fit the 5r, and swap spindles? Or am I forgetting something?

i think you would be better off buying a 2wd honestly. just curious as to why you want to ditch the 4wd system in the first place? wieght?

If it was green and had a 4.0, sure! I want better economy. I would sell it, but I still owe 7500 on it. And unless I wheel it, I never need the 4wd system. The winters here can suck, bit I've been driving em with a 93 mercury cougar for 7 years with no problems, and she had an open diff. I'm just looking to see how big of a pita it is gonna be. I love my truck, but averaging 14.9~16.2 is killing me on the commute.

just dont drive as fast and coast as much as you can. you use majority of your gas when your excellerating so ease out of a stop and make sure your tires are inflated at the right psi..i average about 15.9 right now

I don't think you'll get much better with a 2wd conversion.

My 2wd 4.0 is hard on gas.

I keep my tires aired to about ~75 psi cold. Anything lower and I start to have a lot of shimmy on hard bumps and holes from the sidewall flexing. I just put a bed cover on her. Gonna run a few tanks and see what happens. I really love the ability to climb and scramble over and through nasty terrain, but I gotta find a way to get better mileage. I suppose running to 3k before shifting isn't helping, eh?

It's not about having 4x4 and barely using it. It's about having it if you ever do need it. It's peace of mind.
