Default Auto Shifting

After I back out of my driveway, there is a slight hesitation when shifting from reverse to drive.

I have to wait a second or two for the tranny to shift gears.

If I accelerate as soon as I have it in drive, the engines revs as if it was in nutral, clunks then goes.

My question is, is this breif moment in between gears normal?

BTW...I am smart enough to know that I should let the tranny shift into drive before I punch it...

Mine does the same thing. Just normal with Rangers i guess. Mine is a 3.0 so that tranny has a history of issues anyways.

Mine has 63000 miles on it. When the big 60000 mile service was done the fluid was flushed. Mine still shifts a little hard even after the service but thats just how the tranny handles it.
