Angry Tranny slipping after flush

I have a 96 ranger 4x4 supercab 4.0L automatic with 99K on it. It's been a great truck until recently when I took it in to have the transmission fluid flushed. Since then it slips when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Before having it flushed it worked perfectly. Now what do I do? Am I looking at a transmission rebuild? If this is the case does anyone know how much this is going to cost me? Is there a cheap fix to this problem?

Yes that was the first time since I've owned the truck (purchased it at 40K) that I had it flushed. And no it's not low on fluid. I've read other posts that say it's probably not a good idea to have it flushed with higher miles if it's the first time. Too late to do anything about that now. I want to know if I now need to have the transmission rebuilt? If this is the case does anyone know how much this is going to cost me? Or Is there a cheap fix to this slipping problem?

Sorry about your problem greenranger but I'm still looking for answers to my questions. Can anyone on this site help me? Do I need to have my transmission rebuilt and if so does anyone know how much this is going to cost me? Or Is there a cheap fix to this slipping problem?

usually when they start acting up, it is rebuild time. There might be some type of additive you could try but don't know of any good ones off the top of my head. Research them a little

Thanks for your input "Crashtest Dummie"! I'm from Indiana too! Now In SoCal mountains. If you were out here ,I might get you help that I've depended on for years:My Sweet Seesters Husband! AKA,My Bro-In-Law.He's A College Auto Tech Instructor.Fortunately,She called ME yesterday,I mentioned My Tranny prroblem, and As soon as possible will take it "down there"!He worked Ford Dealerships Many years and has some buddies that rebuild for him at Rockbottom prices.I don't have ANY slippage though.I haven't drove more than 40 miles since the firm shift from 1st to 2nd! Then my other Brother said try the Battery treminal cleaning,if they're corroded. That's when I started seeing the O/D Light Off indicator lamp "flashing".I'm gonna re-disconnect the Battery to follow the owners manual word for word, just in case it was a reconnect battery, relearn, procedural thing? Get back to Yall in week or so!

A good additive is made by Lucas. They make a product to stop slipping. You can get it at any auto parts store. Years ago my friend had an old car that we were building for a demo car. The trans was slipping really bad. We added 2 quarts of the lucas stuff and we were able to do burnouts with it. Just recently a coworker was having some slipping issues with his old mustang (one of the crappy 4cyl ones.) I told him to try lucas, and he did and said that it started working within a few miles. Try it as a last ditch effort, but eventually it's gonna need a rebuild. Cost is probably anywhere from 1,200 to 2,000.

I tried a bottle of the Lucas Transmission Fix with no luck. Transmission still slips when going from 2nd to 3rd. Looks like I need to have it rebuilt. Thanks for the suggestion though. It was worth a try.

I don't have ANY dtetectable slippage! I "relearned " ,My Trans & Engine controls ,via a Battery disconnect, road test.At first All seemed?,well. However after about 15 miles,it started again, the ever so slight firmness or perhaps as I increase Revs,it seems to go from 1st right to 3rd or 4th?Then the O/D light flashes& when I shut it off & restsrt ,It goes away! Trans Flush Help? Prehaps My last "resort" before Overhaul? Or would I be wasting $50-75? Thanks,my Brothers are busy now with health&wives health issues! I suppose it's futile to expect Ford to recall these early 2000 Ford nvehicles.I've been reading "Horror Stories",about these on Complaint forums, etc.? Scarry indeed! Especially in the "Peoples Republic of California"!They're taking our money to balance the budget.Doesn't China and Commie countries, take ALL your money too! Of course "We" could have saved more money and not "Maxed" our Credit! If you're Smart unlike myself, don't depend on Government Disability ,for your everyday needs! I'm screwed!

chack the band adjustment.

My 96 was slipping 2-3 bad adjusted the bands and it has been doing well for 4 years now.

i talked to a transmission guy back then he said it was a $10 seal but the trans has to be torn down to replace it.

I don't have "slipping" just firness, occasionally, from 1st to 2nd or 3rd? Then that O/D light off starts flashing.Shut it off upon return home ,drive again short distance, shifts OK,then light goes out! Go back out for short trip (25 miles) Starts OVER again. If I "get On It',It seems to bypass 2Nd altogether, then the O/D light flashes again till I stop the vehicle and turn ignition off! I've heard try Lucas Oil(Iffy,I know!) Flush out&filter,Retrieve code from PCM,etc.Awaiting family help with two brothers, that live in "Big City".I'm wayyyy outhere in Mountains.I think I'll go back to "Living Off The Land",and just might have to,! Thank You Ford! I know if "We" can't make a Quality" Automatic Transmission,How Can we possibly make anything mechanical that lasts,or without defects?
