96 2.3 L - Which clutch kit to buy
I've got a kick around 1996 Ranger 2.3L, extra cab, 5sp manual. I've got the transmission out and ready to pull the clutch off the flywheel. First time attempting this job on my own.
Prior to taking it apart, the truck had difficulties shifting into gear. grinds sometimes. Have to baby it into first especially. Then the kicker was when I was in a tight spot with mounds of dirt back and working the clutch hard. It's been smelling of rubber since.
I'm so confused by all the options on clutches and which options to buy.
1. Is it necessary to remove the flywheel if it is in good shape. No worn teeth.
2. Given my issues what parts should I definitely replace? There are no fluid leaks. I previously replaced the clutch master cylinder.
Rock Auto shows all these options. Not sure it even matters, but saving money is a concern.
- Release bearing (should it come with the kit?)
- damped? Pre-damped?
- self adjusting or not
