A buddy bought a Cal/EPA '88 Ranger, 2.3L, 5 speed, 2wd, which someone put a 2.5L 4cyl engine in it.

The clutch is basically inop since the T/O is constantly pressing HARD into the diaphragm fingers and cannot compensate for position.

Is the 2.5 engine happy with a 2.3 5-speed transmission? If it's okay I'll dive in for new T/O and just get 'er done.

I've researched and see the clutch parts are different and not really interchangeable. I don't know what's in the bellhousing now... frankly it might be interesting to find out... academically, that is!

The truck's a cutie... no body cancer, starts and runs strongly.... unfortunately not 4WD, interior looks "decent", good glass, paint, tires are so-so and definitely NOT snow treads!

Those things can be handled, but if this trans proves to be wrong .... it could throw their $300.00 investment into the porcelain receptacle.
