Default removing linkage arm pin in A4LD trans

Can anyone suggest a way to get the linkage pin out of an A4LD transmission? I saw one video of a guy pulling it out easily with some dikes but it won't come out & I just end up cutting up the pin. The head sticking up is extremely small & difficult to get ahold of. I'm trying to drill out the same pin on a junk transmission to replace the arm. For some reason the ball on the shift arm is oversized. I don't understand it. Looks like it was replaced with the wrong ball. I think somebody hit something & the arm was welded.
