upshift creaking

When upshifting from first to second or second to third I'm hearing a noticeably loud creaking noise but not always maybe once in five times. Outside temperature doesn't seem to be a factor. The truck is a 2003 5 speed 6 cylinder XLT.

A creaking noise? Like a squeaking or ping or metal settling? Or like something moving?

I'd check the transmission mounts on a truck that age to start. If you have any more information that'd be helpful.

Yes a squeaking creaking sound. A friend of mine said he thought it sounded more like bad bushings somewhere. The truck has 134,000 miles on it and runs great.

Check the oil level in the trans, and check U joints too.

I wasn't thinking about the u-joints. I'll check them also, thanks. And the trans oil.
