Exclamation "shit no breaks"

k so, basically gettin down to the point quickly.

breaks have been squeeking every now and then.

all of a sudden tonight i started my truck, and i push down on the b pedal and it has no pressure.

some times they would work but mostly not.

im guessing break fluid, or im hopeing that is what the problem is.

any suggestions, i will appreciate them.
thanks.

its a little resevior under the hood on the driver's side...if you have a manual trans, you will have a resevior for that and for brakes...looks like this. I dont know what the car pictured is, but they all look somewhat similar to this.

No problem...If it is low, then you have a leak...Best place to check first for leaks is near where the lines run to your wheels....My bro's rubbed through the line one time and rubbed a hole in it....Hope its a line and not you calipers.

This isn't like oil where you check it and see its a little low and fill it back up. The brakes are a closed, sealed system. If the pedal went to the floor because the fluid is low, then you busted a line and emptied it out. You need find the leak, fix it, refill, bleed it, etc etc. And replace the squeeling parts. They don't make noises like that to sooth your ears.

If you're bleeding out because you sawed off your arm with a chainsaw, would you just pour some more blood in and call it fixed? Topping it off and bleeding the brakes isn't going to help. If you had breaks yesterday and today you don't, you have major broken component or cracked brake line. You have to fix that before you can refill and bleed it.

Hopefully his mechanic will fix whatever needs fixing.

I hope so. I worry when I hear people they're mechanic is going to do this and that and sounds like it's just going to make it worse. There is obviously a lot more wrong here than some low fluid.

I do agree with these guys that if you were hearing sounds from your brakes before you suddenly got no brakes then its likely that a caliper or rear cylinder is leaky and leaked brake fluid was occasionaly getting onto the braking surface of one or more wheel. It could still be worn seals in your master cylinder but that wouldn't cause noisy brakes before it failed. Point is you do have a leak somewhere in your brake system.

If this mechanic doesn't tell you he found anything and indicates that the refill and bleeding should do it, it's not true and you wouldn't be out of the woods on this issue yet. It would just happen again only the sudden failure may not happen when your starting up in park.

Let us know what your mechanic said! Maybe he thinks it could be a loose bleeder valve so he made it sound simple? He can't really think refilling your brake system will prevent this from happening again.
