Sounds like you are having a drain back problem. While sitting the fluid will drain out of the converter and back to the pan. This is from worn bushings, or valve bore wear. Easy check is to leave it sit over night and before starting it pull the dipstick out and note how far up past the full mark the level is. If it is higher than 3/4 of an inch above full you would have a drain back issue. After starting vehicle are you letting it run for a bit before engaging a gear? May try after starting engine shift to neutral for 30 seconds and then to reverse or drive. Might engage quicker without having to rev engine.
