Must downshift my automatic trans manually
So. My trusty 05 Ranger will Not downshift on its on. If I come to a stop in Drive, it acts quite exactly the same as forgetting to downshift and push the clutch in a manual transmission. Shudders. Stalls. This only applies if the trip involves exceeding around 60 kph. Our best transmission shop found no issues and sent me to Ford for a computer flash. Ford did that, and did a software update. They also replaced a blown fuse in the PCM. Great news, however this did exactly nothing to remedy the issue
The only way to drive is to go into Reverse first, apply a little torque or actually back up a few feet, then select any forward gear. And of course manually pull her down into 2nd and 1st when I need to stop.
Quite a mystery.
