Exclamation Low rumble at highway speeds like it's in 4 wheel when it is 2 wheel

So, I'm looking at a 2002 Ranger 4x4 Supercab, 6 cylinder 3.0, automatic transmission, and my dad and I have noticed that after switching from 4 wheel to 2 wheel, then driving at highway speeds, there is a low rumble like it's still driving in 4 wheel and we don't know what could cause that. Is there just something we did not do when we switched from 4 to 2, is it fixable easily, or is it just how it sounds? Please help because otherwise the rest of the truck is in really nice condition.

There should not be any noise when driving in four wheel or two wheel drive. There could be something wrong with the transfer case.
