Default rear diff upgrade

I have a 92 Ford ranger 2wd with a 3.0. my differential is starting to make some noise and I would like to upgrade it. I would like to find a bolt in unit from the junkyard to keep cost down. eventually it will get a 5.0 swap but need to keep the truck going till then. anyone know anything I can take the diff out of that will fit? I wouldn't mind a little more get up and go either.

Have you looked at fluid levels yet and or doing a fluid swap first?

I can't leave well enough alone ha ha ha. I figured just upgrade now and not worry about it later.

The only thing that's going to "bolt in" with no modifications is another ranger axle. And if you already have an 8.8" rear, you're accomplishing nothing since that's the biggest axle rangers got. There is a 31 spline version which is stronger but is somewhat rare in rangers. Even if you have the smaller 7.5" axle the 28 spline 8.8" found in most v6 rangers is only a minor upgrade.

Unless you're willing to weld on new spring perches and shock mounts and do brake modifications those are your options...

thankyou for your input. I appreciate it. do you think the stock 7.5 will handle a stock 5.0 power?

Absolutely. Stock 5.0's aren't exactly power houses. Depending on the year they are around 200hp, with an automatic in a ranger probably more like 180 at the wheels. Alot more than the 3.0 but within the limits of the 7.5" .
