Default Different pinion lock shaft in differential...

Hey all,

Just a quick heads up after doing my rear axles seals and bearings. After a load of research I thought I would tackle this today. Most went as expected until I got the diff cover off my truck. Everything I had seen in posts and youtube showed the standard lock shaft or pin. My seemed very different but obviously serves the same purpose. Undid the locking bolt ( could find no evidence of loctite ) and pulled this machined billet out of my differential. All buttoned up but it did make me pause for a bit

That part is unique to the Torsen limited slip differential found in 2002 FX4 and 2003+ FX4 Level II. The bolt should be loctited and torqued to 22 lb-ft. Ideally, Ford recommends replacing it whenever removed. New bolt comes with threadlocker applied.

Thanks for that rwenzing, I just reapplied the bolt but did use loctite on it. Hopefully that doesn't bite me in the future.
