Hi guys

I'm having a problem with my four wheel drive. The thing will shift into 4 high and 4 low with no problem, but it won't shift the other way. It won't go from 4 low to 4 hi, or from 4 high to two.

There are no indications from the dash that something is wrong. No flashing 4x4, and when it shifts into 4hi or 4low, the correct lights com on.

I also believe the switch is working properly. For one, it shifts into high and low no problem. For two, when I try to shift the other direction, I can hear the clocks in the dash.

Also, I can shift the transfer case manually no problem.

I've already tried installing a know good shift motor.


So, I'm left to think it's either the control module or a simple bad connection somewhere.

My questions are, does anyone know the actual correct part number (dorman, Ford, or otherwise) for this module? And does anyone have the wiring schematics for this system on a 2008, or comparable year?

I've found conflicting info on that. Some places say 2001 to 2005 is different from mine, so sources say 2001 and newer are all the same. Some say it should be behind the dash on the newesi models, some say the kick panel.

On my 2006 it's to the left of the radio inside the dash.I suggest you find it first for the correct part number.Than check Rockauto.com

If anyone is wondering, it's also behind the radio and to the left on a 2008. No thanks at all to the Haynes book, which says without qualification that it should be at the kick panel all the way to 2010 models.

Anyway, I'd still be super interested if anyone has the wiring schematics for this truck that includes the 4x4 control components. I'm not convinced that this part has failed, but I can't really check it without knowing what wire lead where.
