I took my new to me 2006 with 3.0 engine and auto trans to local shop. Said a seal was leaking and they replaced it. They said they refilled ATF but I noticed the job receipt billed me for 5 qits. synthetic ATF. Don't they hold 10 qts? Could you replace a seal w/o draining all the ATF?

Any thoughts?

Pan seal and rear output shaft. I checked the fluid level when it was hot-it was fine, and the fluid looks new. Mechanic says now he did not do a drain and flush...so 5 qts. were all needed.

So 5 qts. sounds ok?

The fluid level was mid way between top and bottom marks. Dipstick says "Do not fill if level is between marks" So I guess that means fluid is dispersed as trans is hot?

Sorry to seem dumb but I am ignorant about this. And this truck is different to me....I feel so lucky to find a truck so babied and cared for by its owner-i don't want to screw it up. She is 12 years old but totally clean (except for the tailgate, that's another post!

That sounds about right for a train and fill. Lots of fluid stays captive in the torque converter.
