Desperately need help!!
So I have a 2001 Ford Ranger 4.0 v6 and Friday I pulled up to a intersection and stopped and when I went to pull off I wasn’t on the throttle hard I kinda eased on in then I decided I wanted to race off so I gave it some more and it hit 25ish and I gave it more and when it went to down shit it Down shifted and just lost all power to the wheels. I believe it’s the transmission because I can put it in reverse and drive and it’ll get up to 3k rpms before it even budges but if I put it in 1 or 2 it’s move just fine and when I’m up to speed I can put it in drive and it’ll drive fine but the thing is there’s no noises or anything? But I don’t know. I figured if it’s done for I would put a 5speed in it but I was wondering if anyone knew what I needed and what trans I needed to keep 4wd
PLEASE HELP!

Sounds like your torque converter is fucked. I would take it to a reputable trans shop could also be bad valve body. Either way doesn’t sound like an easy fix.

Since the transmission needs to be removed to replace the torque converter, might as well have them go over the trans too.

I definitely will! Since this is the second trans that’s been in the truck I might as well

Re: Desperately need help!!
Fluid and filter changes every 30k make these transmissions last a lot.

Well, not so much when you try driving them like your living life a 1/4 mile at a time...

That is nonsense. Pull the dipstick out and check the fluid, if it looks normal, why waste money?

Because when you live in a high traffic area and tow a boat a lot your trans fluid is done by then. And the trans on my last Ranger was all original at 235k. Fluid and filter changes are much cheaper then a rebuild. At 235k every 30,000 equals about $1,410 if it costs $180 per service. Which is still cheaper. That’s what nonsense it is.
