Good to hear.. Sounds like a checkout cart on Rock Auto is due.. May as well do both sides if not uppers and lowers, and least lowers left & right.

No, it's the lower ball joint. Through the knuckle and the traction beam at the bottom.

Yea.. you may wanna grab uppers and lowers and then just do it all while your in there.. that upper isnt gonna last too much longer with a torn boot and no grease at least.. especially if you're in the winter belt of the country?

Ahhh.. Looks like it needs replacement IMO, always in pairs, and if budget allows, if the uppers look like that, I'd throw some new lower ones on as well. Rockauto has some really good deals on MOOG uppers and lowers right now.

I just put an order together myself...

Considering that's everything in the front end of my 93', including wheel bearings & seals, and pivot bushing too.. that's pretty good considering local NON-MOOG parts at local part stores wanted between $44-59 EACH for uppers and lowers alone.

Still confused about the only $8.99 shipping tho.. I recalculated that 4 times to be sure.. seems awfully cheap to me... oh well

I just ordered my first item from Rockauto, it was a cooling fan assembly, $15 to ship, i have to assume that they have multi warehouses and it's just which one it's coming from? That's a really good shipping price you got.

Not sure if i need to do the lowers? How much work is involved in doing the uppers? Alignment needed afterwards?

Update: I ordered the ball joints and had my shop do the install in late October. Everything has been fine for the last 1.5 months until recently. I am noticing what sounds like the same sound as ball joints coming from the passenger front suspension when I go over bumps. I bought the motor craft ball joints instead of the cheaper options.

I jacked up the truck again and unlike last time, I cannot recreate the sound. The ball joints seem good and tight (I would hope so at <2 months old). Everything seems tight. I did notice the axle end (part that goes into the 4x4 hub) can slide about 1/2 inch in or out until the lock ring on the axle prevents it from sliding inward any more. I dont know if that is supposed to happen, or if I have some slop in some axle part.

Any ideas? I am pretty sick of this noise persisting no matter what I do. The noise still becomes silent over bumps if the brakes are applied, even slightly.

Truck has
-New ball joints upper and lower
-New wheel bearings inner and outer
-New brake rotors/pads/calipers/caliper mounts
-Newer manual 4x4 hubs
