It looks like the leak is coming from above the axle.
It's pretty rare for the top of the housing to be leaking, and it looks like it is wet all the way up.
I'd double check above the axle to see if something else is dripping from above.
BTW, have you checked the lube level in the dif?
With that much on the housing, It would be low.
What color is the fluid that's dripping?

i would clean all the oil and dirt off that area and it will help you pinpoint the leak better. its going to be hard to find when everything is so oil covered like that.

Question Re: front axle leaking?

alright guys. i appreciate all the help. im an apprentice electrician and slowly learning more about cars.. but would i just spray it off with hose?? and how do i check the diff. fluid?? that is a differential right? i thought there were only ones in the back? or bc its 4x4?? and to charles i checked above and my master brake cylinder is kind of wet looking but not massivly enough.. and it may because i shot out steering fluid b4 from moving my car when it was off and havent cleand it.
[IMG][/IMG]

but i just cant find out what it is! ive been checking my engine oil and its at reg levels.. and the fluid dripping is lightish brown.. and im doing an oil change this week. so it may be dirty oil orr idk??
once again thanks for all the help guys. its really appreciated

*EDIT*
i may be wrong becuase i just looked at this picture

and the fluid looks greenish... but coolant levels are fine and not dropping. but i do have a fluccuating temp. gauge. but i presumed that was probly just the sensor in the piping to engine..? or just gauge. thats yet another problem i have to get too...

So what about the possibility of a cooling system leak caused by a bad radiator cap? I see people suggest that all the time. A bit too much pressure builds in the hoses, and finds a way out.
Does your reservoir ever get above the high mark? And is that just a big wet spot or does it ever leave a puddle?

well like i said my coolent levels havent changed at all.. and im not sure if they go over max after the car being hot. im pretty sure they dont. and if i leave it sit for a day or night it will leave a 2 to 4 inch puddle. not big at all but still concerning.

It just looks like an intermittant cooling system leak (for now) has caused some vapor transfer. Which doesn't need alot of fluid to cover alot of area. Possibly intermitant because of periods of high pressure buildup. And that can be due to a faulty radiator cap combined with hoses/clamps that are vulnerable to leaking.

4WD vehicles have a front differential. This is where the front gears live.

Look on the front of the pumpkin (the big roundish thing that you see from the rear) and there is a large plug with a square nut.

Clean around this to keep any dirt from entering the diff when it is removed.

Use an adjustable or open end wrench and remove the plug.

The dif lube should be right at the top, and most of the time there is a little extra so it will start to drip out.

If it is not at the top, fill it and replace the plug.

BTW, it looks like coolant in the last pics you posted.

Did you check the radiator, or just the reservoir?

thanks for all the help guys.. u deff know alot more than me. and i checked both the reservoir and radiator.. the radiotor cap doesnt seem to be leaking at all. but the reservoir is just one of those snap on big lids... and it seems to have fluid around it.. but it doesnt look like enough to drip all the way down. esp to the right side of my front axle when its on the left of my engine bay..? and im goin to check my front diff fluid right after this just to be sure. esp now that i know how. thanks alot guys really appreciate it.
