Hey Rath,
Have you found the problem yet?
Having just gone thru a TC motor replacement, I am curious.

Also, in doing my research on my TC motor issues I came across this link and thought it might help.
Google this topic:
Ford Ranger 4x4 Module Diagnosis (1994 & Older)

(it's from another Ranger forum so I apologize)

Haven't fixed it yet, hard to find the right module for my truck. Might have found one though. Its the only thing that hasn't been replaced, so it's gotta be that.

Here's an excerpt from the article I found:

2. If all the fuses are good, the next step is to run the 4x4 module self diagnostic. The 4x4 module is located behind the driver’s side rear jump seat on super-cab models, but as far as the other locations I don’t really know. This module will have three connectors going to it – one will be a pig tail, the other two will be located on the right side of it (side towards the front of the truck). These two connectors must be removed to diagnose the module.

With the key in the off position, remove these two connectors from the module.

Next, turn the key on with the engine off. On top of the module is a white rectangular button located next to a red LED….push the button and watch the LED.

a. If it flashes, this indicates the module is working properly. Go to step 3.

b. If it lights up and stays on, it indicates that the module is likely bad.

c. If nothing happens, it means the module is either bad, or has no ground/power.

In either of these instances (b or c) power and ground should be verified before scrapping a 4x4 module.

I went thru it and it helped. I'm not good with anything that sparks so thankfully I only had to go up to this step and my module was ok.

Good luck with it.

Have you tried leaving the motor loose at the mount to see if it's binding. If the motor is working I would be looking for a motor connection issue at the slot.

Yup. I've watched the motor turn as someone inside switched between the various ranges. Marked where it stopped with a marker etc. Turns the same amount whether it's on the transfer case or off.

I was going to take the motor to my cousins truck (07 fx4) to test it on his, bit I haven't had time.

I'm getting a new, used control module for $50 and we'll see if that works.
