Default 2001 Ranger 4wd not Engaging

Hey all, I've searched and can't seem to find anyone with my issue. I get all the correct lights on startup and when I turn the switch to 4wd. I also am getting the clicks from the controller module.

I have a 2001 Ranger XLT 3.0L. This Rocking Ranger has a live front axle. When I turn the knob into 4wd high, I hear the click and the light illuminates indicating 4wd high; but 4wd doesn't engage. The same thing happens for 4Low. I changed out the 4wd controller module by the passenger kickpanel and the shift motor on the transfer case and it still isn't working. While the motor was pulled off the t-case I could switch into various 4wd modes and could see the t-case motor turn. Additionally, I had someone step on the gas when it was stuck and the front drive shaft wasn't spinning out of the transfer case. Any advice for this guy? I am starting to think it's the transfer case itself.

Hey'all,

The bad news, it's my transfercase. It's all bound up. The good news, I found a fresh kill with less than 30k miles on it for less than $200!

Big question is how do I know if the t-case of this 03 ranger will fit my 01 ranger? Was this a fairly generic part? the guy is asking for the ID of mine, I am not home to look it up so any way to tell him would be great.

It's a Automatic 2001 Ranger, 3.0L. towing rear end The rear end is actually off the same ranger at the salvage yard. I had to replace that sucker when I first got the truck.

Sorry, Didn't see this thread.

I believe any electric shift BW 1354 tcase will work. When I replaced my tcase, I just went to the junkyard and looked for a 4wd ranger, made sure it was an electric BW 1354 and that the plug was the same as mine.

Thanks Jimmyspy!

No worries, I had my lady take a picture and send it to me. That worked well too.

Cheers!

I do have one more questions, The photo I posted above has an 6C on it while the new one I have has a HT on it. Any idea what these mean? Other than that they look like the exact same transfer case.

That, I can't answer. It shouldn't effect anything though. To my knowledge, as long as it came out a ranger or explorer, all the electric 1354s were the same.
