Default I need help!! Trans problem 3.0l v6 automatic 2 wheel drive

I've got a 98 Ranger with the 3.0L V6. It will not go into gear, but shift cable is intact, and moves the lever on the trans. If I'm not mistaking this model has 4R44E trans. Any help or advice would be appreciated. My name is Vaughn, I've had my ranger for quite a while, if like to keep it, just wandering, how much trouble I'm gone get into lol with this trans issue

Try removeing the cable and attempting to shift the truck on the mechanism on the side of the tranny by hand (obviuosly with a helper here to avoid being run over) Cables stretch over years of use

hey bigtrucker1959; a 93 v6-3.0 has a a4ld of trans. you could have a broken shift arm . you could drop the pan disconnect shift cable and see if it works. or put it on 4 stands with or without disconnecting cable and with helper run engine and check it out . but above all SAFETY FIRST!!!

gtrucker1959; sorry read year wrong, I read 93, which I have too your 98. but rest is still the same. if it don't work then it is really internal, like pump soliniods ,etc.
