Default 4.88 gears and limited slip help.

Moving up to 35s. I read that 4.88 gears will not work with the limited slip. is this true?

First time I have heard of that.

I don't see why the gear ratio would effect the LS. Ring gear mounts to the carrier, LS diff goes inside the carrier, as long as the carrier is meant for an LS, everything should work just fine. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You and me both. They should work fine, unless someone knows something we don't. Just had me wondering

Yeah as stated before they should work together fine. You will need to notch the carrier pin pretty good for the 4.88 but any shop will be familiar with that process. I have 4.56 and LS with 35s and I had both tires spinning in the sand the other day while I was stuck lol

It will work. Early on people didn't know you had to notch the cross shaft. You can actually buy them already notched from Randy's. I've even seen where they grind down the teeth so they don't have a notched pin. Some guys running lockers don't feel comfortable with a notched pin.

Like so.

As long as you don't mess with the contact area of where the two gears meet there shouldn't be a problem with that method either.
