Default Jerking in 2004 Ford Ranger 2.3L (4 cyl) Auto

Hi,
I just rebuilt the tranny on '04 Ranger 2.3L (4cyl) Auto. Before the rebuild, it was taking 3-4 seconds when going to reverse and also the front shifting (1st to 2nd) was hard. In both the cases, the truck jerked heavily.
After rebuild, the front shifting's fine now. There's no delay in reverse. All the gears are engaging fine. However, when going into reverse the jerk is still harsh. If I press on the brakes the jerk reduces but still there. But going to "D" from "P" or "R" is fine. What I was told is this is normal for rear wheel drive vehicles. Is this true?

When I took it back to the shop, I was told the only thing he can do is remove the recalibration kit and replace it with stock VB. Will this help? And is stock VB better than recalibration kit?

Mines been doing the same thing but I have reason to believe it's the rear axle. Both the transmissions in my 07 had a delay before engaging. Pop your diff cover off and look for play in the spider gears

You have a 7.5 axle which is a sloppy bastard anyways.

Put the truck in neutral and set the e brake and twist the driveshaft, it should move just a tiny bit but not much

Check U-Joints and rear end. My 99 would do this occasionally.
