Unhappy problems with 2000 ford ranger 3.0l automatic fuse 26 and gem

Howdy folks 63 day in a row 90degrees plus hard to work on my truck in that heat. My problem is fuse 26 on my 2000 ranger xlt keeps blowing. I put new one in I get about 20 seconds of door chime then pop. No key in ignition. Nothing that goes through the GEM works One mechanic put his tester on my truck said bad speed sensor so I put brand new sensor in no change. One mechanic said check your brake lights possible bad brake switch. I disconnected bottom plug on gem the only change I got was fuse 26 does not blow. Here is what does not work No speedometer transmission does not shift no wipers no door chime, no dome lights. basically everything the gem controls does not work understandable with main power that comes from fuse 26 keeps blowing. I checked and swapped out all relays on truck no effect. Seems a ground is being thrown onto the fuse at the gem. Little nervous about buying a used gem from ebay from 51 dollars up and do not want to go to dealer and pay 500 dollars. I am pretty sure it is the gem it seems to be just a bunch of solid state relays. fuse blow fast fo me and my meter to do any good testing. Any thoughts

Well I think I may have solved my own problem. I pulled the GEM out of my truck found some prints of the GEM test from pin 11 strait from fuse 26 on C224 other side of meter to ground pin 18 dead short. I do not know what is in the circuitry my prints are not that detailed But I figure with no power being applid the main power source for the GEM should not be shorted to ground that is why fuse 26 keep blowing. Next step find me a Gem on Ebay and try it out.
