Default Front Axle Problem

Hey guys, I've got a problem with my '04 Ranger's front end. When I'm drivin' down the road, especially under 20 MPH, my front end makes a loud grindin' noise. I jacked up the front end and turned the tires, and it'll turn about 1/8 a turn and it'll jam, and I've gotta turn it back and forth to get it to turn any further. No matter which tire I turn, it does the same thing. I noticed the passenger side CV joint is leakin' bad. If I replace the CV joint, will that fix the problem? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

The "cv leaking" is probably the axle seal. (Is it on the axel end or the tire end of the cv?). Yes, CVs can bind when they go bad. Differential components can as well though

I would check the fluid in your front diff to start with.

I'll do that next, and it's leakin' on the axle side.

UPDATE: I tried to pump out some of the old fluid to see how bad it was, only to discover it didn't HAVE none. I added a quart of oil, and it seemed to help. But she must've been runnin' dry for a while, 'cause she's leakin' like a siv. I also discovered that the passenger side CV axle is bad. I've gotten a replacement CV axle, but I'm gonna get new seals before I install it.
